1st & 2nd made their own butter... it was delicious and a lovely treat for a Friday evening.
7th March 2018:
2nd class celebrated their First Confessions today, surrounded by their families and friends. They were absolutely brilliant and I am a very happy and proud teacher. Thank you to all the children and teachers who sang and played instruments. It is always a special day for our school family.
1st and 2nd class had a very busy day, as we then hopped on Pat Lydon's bus and went to Kylemore Abbey. Every year we are lucky enough to be invited to plant trees on the grounds of the Abbey. Today we were helped by Rob and Bobby. We planted an oak tree and a beech tree. We then went on a nature walk around the walled gardens and found the new natural playground. It is a fantastic resource and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We finished our trip with refreshments in the cafe as we needed to rest of legs! Thanks, as always, to the staff of Kylemore Abbey for a wonderful experience.

Proclamation Day March 15th 2016
We had a beautiful sunny day for our Proclamation Ceremony, so we decided to take it outside. Each class did a little presentation of what they had been working on in class for Seachtain Na Gaeilge. At 12 noon we raised our National Flag and sang Amhran Na Bhfiann. We then read two proclamations prepared by the senior classes. We finished the ceremony by singing the Foggy Dew.
As it was also Seachtain Na Gaeilge the children took part in lots of activities throughout the day, such as Gaelic Drills taught by our 6th class, A Tra na gCeist and a Ceili Mor. The day was then topped off with a bowl of jelly and ice cream and an Irish Flag for all!!

Our festive season has been very busy. It kicked off with a carol service in GMIT Letterfrack, where the children raised €167 for our local St. VINCENT de Paul. Last Thursday the 17th we had our annual Granny and Grandpa's day. The children performed and entertained us all with music, poetry, singing and plays. The parent's baked some wonderful treats and the parent's association put together a wonderful spread for everyone. Our Christmas hamper was a huge success and thank you all for buying and selling tickets. Today Santa visited the school and it was a day full of joy, laughter and fun. Finally tomorrow the children will do some more singing at the country shop to send us on our merry way. A big thank you to everyone who made our Christmas celebrations so special. Merry Christmas and see you all in 2016.

We are very busy organising our anniversary celebrations for Saturday 14th November. The day will kick off with a mass in the church to bless all our past and present pupils from the last 50 years but especially to remember those who have past away. Please let us know if there are any deceased pupils you would like us to remember.
Our school will be open for everyone to visit after the mass on the 14th. The children are busy working on different projects that they will proudly display on the day.
Leo has dropped in some great photos from over the years that you can see on the day but we would still love some class photos if anyone has any we can photocopy.

5th & 6th had a fantastic field trip yesterday guided be Archaeologist Leo Morahan. They started the morning in Mweelin to see the old Lime Kiln. They also visited two burial grounds and got to taste some fresh well water. They then traveled to Renvyle to see the castle and met a very friendly horse. Finally they stopped at Renvyle graveyard to see the Church of the Seven Sisters. Thanks again to Leo they had a great day and learned lots about their locality. They are looking forward to telling you all about it at our open day in November!

As part of our 50 year anniversary celebration, on Monday the 5th of October our two senior rooms had a very exciting lesson on Archeology. Leo Morahan, a parent in our school and local archeologist taught the children how to read ordnance survey maps, explained what ring forts are and fulacht fiadh. A big thank you to Leo for sharing his expertise, the children really enjoyed the lesson. Next week Leo will bring the children on a field trip to look at local areas of historical interest. We are really looking forward it.

A big thank you to Lex, who visited Liv's room today for a science lesson. We may have vets in the making after her lesson, especially if they find marshmallows in the animals they operate on!

First Lego League Fashion Show 25th April 2015
April 21st 2015
Liv's room and 4th class were kindly invited to visit Kylemore Abbey today by Eithne. As my theme for April is to learn about Homes, she enthusiastically showed us the biggest house 1st, which of course is the abbey itself. We then took a short stroll over to the gardens, where Anja showed us how our trees were budding. We then ate our lunch Al Fresco on the lawns. Into the beautiful gardens we went once fed and watered! What an amazing place and a credit to all involved. All 38 kids and 3 adults squashed into The Bothy house, to listen attentively about chamber pots! The kids loved it and it was such a contrast to the size of the abbey. Onto the final house we went, which was The Head Gardeners House. Just beautiful and what an amazing way to bring our history lesson to life. A few boys in 3rd were discussing doing SESE this way all the time, which was lovely. Of course they got very excited then when I told them my next theme is Spain, imagining straight away hopping on a plane! A huge thank you to Eithne and the rest of the Kylemore staff there today. Also thank you to Pat Lydon who so kindly brought us on the short trip. What better way to finish off a sunny day trip, than to eat ice-cream and wafers outside! The teachers and children know how lucky we are to teach and learn in Letterfrack......

Senior room beach walk on the White Strand
19/03/2015
Today the senior room went for a beach walk on White Strand beach. We couldn't have asked for a better day and with the sun shining we set off first thing, some of us in wellies ready for the sand! We were met there by Marie-Louise Walsh our excellent guide who helped us identify the various seaweed and rocks that can be found on our beaches. We used a telescope to identify some of the birds near the shore and were shown a pigs tooth and a deer's antler that were discovered previously on the beach by Marie-Louise. Splashing in the rock pools and comparing our favourite rocks were some more highlights of a great morning spent learning in the outdoors.

Today, the children in 2nd class had their First Confessions in Letterfrack church. A big thank you to Fr. Ronnie who made the morning very special for the nine children. Well done to the children from 3rd-6th who played their instruments brilliantly and to all the children who sang their little hearts out... Thank you to the parents also, who I know were bursting with pride. No doubt the nine children feel very ready for the Big Day in May now that God has heard and forgiven their sins. I am very proud of them, as are all the staff in Letterfrack school.

Today, 2nd class went on their annual trip to Kylemore Abbey, to help the gardeners plant some native trees. This year 5th and 6th class braced the elements with us, as part of the Green Schools project. We planted an oak tree and two elm trees outside the garden walls. Anya then kindly offered to show us the green houses, where the banana trees are growing well and the seedlings are starting to shoot. We then retired to the restaurant for a well deserved treat! A big thank you to Anya, Robert and Linda, who treated us to a great day out..
