Green School Committee Members:
New committee to be appointed for 22/23.
Fiona coordinator
Our committee was elected in October following a brief 'election campaign'. The pupils listened to the candidates speeches and voted for who they felt would work best on their behalf.
So far the committee has come up with a new Green Code:
'Keep our school green and clean'.
We are currently working on our 7th Green Flag- Global Citizenship: Energy. We will be looking at forms of renewable energy, monitoring our current energy use and continuing to maintain all the good work we have done so far. We will also be looking at how other countries manage their consumption of energy.
We will be keeping you updated on all things 'Green Schools' and any ideas for up-cycling projects are greatly appreciated!

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________On Friday 23rd of March 2018, we had our Green Flag renewal visit. Tiarnan Mc Cusker from An Taisce visited the school and met with the Green School Committee to talk about the work we had done to renew our flag. He asked plenty of questions which the committee answered very well.
Over the two Years we have been working on the theme of Global citizenship: Litter and Waste. We devised a new green code, we held a poster competition, we continued to keep an eye on the recycling and energy saving practices we had in place. We surveyed classes on their recycling knowledge. Each class learned about what happens to recycling after it goes in the bin, we looked at videos of the recycling process for paper and tin cans.
We have endeavored to reduce further the amount of waste we produce by reusing items and upcycling items such as jars. In particular we focused on reusing water bottles and encouraging adults to use reusable coffee cups!
The Green School committee made sure everyone was updated on the new recycling guidelines. This information is available on www.recyclinglistireland.ie
We looked at the nationalities represented in our school community...we have ten!
Each class learned about fair trade and why it is important to choose fair trade when possible.
3rd and 4th class also learned about marine pollution and the effects it has on various aspects of marine life....did you know that glass never fully breaks down!
After all the hard work we were delighted to have successfully achieved our 6th Green Flag which we will be collecting at the end of May.
